Respect for the individual user
APIs from caused on data collection for research, classification and ad targeting is understandable. However, Twitter has failed the individual user. Methods being used for determining violations are severely inaccurate, fail to consider context, are not evenly applied (media page can post an article on something absurd with no violation, user can reference the topic of that article and it’s absurdity and receive a violation), do not recognize hate free, benign satire even though this is an exception to a violation in Twitter rules, provides no warning of a possible violation and even fails at following Twitter’s own system of actions taken (no 1st warning, goes straight to timed acct limitation). It is understandable in today’s climate of division and unrest for a platform to want to ensure a safe, accurate and hate free environment. Most individual users want that too. However, when an otherwise productive, well meaning user with a positive Tweet history fears or suffers actions for things not in violation or taken out of context or without their prior Tweets and lack of violations being taken into account, they WILL seek other platforms and Twitter will meet MySpace fate. There must be an extreme improvement in determining violations AND in adding real people with intelligence and expedited timing to the appeals process. 2 days is ABSOLUTELY unacceptable to easily recognize an erroneous violation when the 1st ban is usually 12 hours. If Twitter continues to fail in prioritizing the individual user, Twitter will suffer. The user will just move on to the next platform. One last thing, we live in the year 2021....evolve to the EDIT button for Christ’s sake.
